What Can Slow Moving Glaciers Tell Us About Rapid Climate Change?

Guest speaker Meredith Kelly is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Earth Sciences at Dartmouth College. She also serves as the Faculty Director of the Dartmouth Climate Collaborative. Mountain glaciers exist worldwide and respond sensitively to climate change, as evidenced by their rapid retreat due to recent global warming. How can we use past glacier extents to reconstruct past climate conditions, and what these records tell us about natural (i.e. pre-industrial) climate change?

Presented at the SSAFE general meeting on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
