January General Meeting: 01/08 at 2 PM ET: Karl Pillemer Ph.D., Older, Wiser, Greener: Older Adults as Environmental Leaders

Drawing on research from the Cornell Initiative for Research on Climate and Aging (CIRCA), Dr. Karl Pillemer will explore why older adults represent an untapped resource. This  generation brings unique assets to the environmental movement: life experience, time and flexibility in retirement, deep community connections, and a commitment to leaving a better world for future generations. Dr. Pillemer’s research on the wisdom of older environmental volunteers reveals how their decades of lived experience and a long-term perspective provide invaluable insights that can guide younger generations in addressing the climate crisis. This presentation will also highlight CIRCA’s findings on the personal and community benefits of environmental volunteering for older adults, while demonstrating how organizations like SSAFE are already proving that seniors can be powerful advocates and effective stewards for the planet.
