February General Meeting: 02/05 at 11 AM ET: David Allaway, The Hidden Impacts of Material Consumption and the Opportunity for Real Climate Action

The vast majority of climate policy in the United States – and even our shared understanding of climate pollution and opportunities to reduce it – are informed by national, state and local “greenhouse gas inventories” that focus on domestic (local) sources of emissions. But we live in an interconnected world, where money, investments, and pollution all easily cross state and national borders. A “consumption-based” view of emissions uncovers important and often overlooked opportunities to reduce emissions. In this presentation, David Allaway from the State of Oregon will share key findings that state’s consumption-based emissions inventory and examples of new policies and programs that aim to stem our global carbon footprints.
