OUR MISSION

Senior Stewards Acting For the Environment (SSAFE) mobilizes the experiences, resources, and talents of chapter residents as they work with their administrations to forge a pathway to carbon neutrality by developing and implementing comprehensive community-wide sustainability plans, with the goal of a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050.

Achievement Strategies: In pursuit of this mission SSAFE will:

• Prepare and disseminate guidance to SSAFE chapters and other senior living communities on the most efficacious and cost-effective approaches to achieving net-zero emissions campus-wide.
• Broaden participation in SSAFE activities by disseminating educational materials, hosting learning events, and helping campus residents to expand their knowledge, employ their talents, and acquire leadership skills.
• Forge alliances with other organizations to promote public understanding and advocate for government and business actions aimed at limiting climate change, mitigating its effects, and preserving and restoring the natural environment.
• Build a system of raising the funds necessary to achieve the mission of the organization.
• Add, as chapters, senior living communities that share SSAFE’s core mission and are willing and able to contribute to the work of the organization.
• Adopt a governance structure better adapted to a growing national organization.
• Adopt a three-year strategic plan that synchronizes the interrelated goals outlined above.
